This blog is a pilot about some travels in Croatia, Istria.

We have started our trip in Plitvice National Park which is 260km from Pula where we actually arrived by plane.
The national park is a maze of waterfalls, lakes and more waterfalls.
 On the way to Plitvice

the park has 16 lakes and a difference in altitude of 138m so the natural flow goes and creates this:

Then we came back towards West and found ourselves in a village called Motovun, which is the capital of truffles! If one appreciates the taste of truffles then it is a heaven for the taste buds and literally everything is made and served with truffle. The village is on top of a hill in the middle of a valley and has roots dating back to the 2nd century.
Venice was built by the woods exported from the valley below and the city has a rich Venetian history and the Lion of Venice is very much present on the old walls.

Loaded up with truffle tapenade  and truffle oil, truffle honey, balsamic vinegar we continued our way to Rovinj which is on the west coast of Istria. The old city is built around the church like every medieval city was built, however this one is on a hill overlooking a bay where smaller islands are guarding the port, which is buzzing with life. The fishing boats bring fresh fish to the restaurants which are of course located in the Marina, however if one walks around in the old town can find some really good places where food is not the typical tourist menu.

Of course here the seagulls are waiting patiently for their feline rivals to get their share of fish, after that is their turn...

Last stop was Pula. Circle was complete. Pula has a smaller version of the Colosseum. However it was just as impressive.
This was a week Istria. Next time we travel by car so we can stock up with the goods this part of the world has on offer. Everyone said it is like Toscana here, it is true, the landscape the food, many locals speak Italian and people are extremely friendly. Visiting here for us was a present and we will return in the near future.
